Rhythm Tap Master Class with Yuka Kameda

Level: Intermediate/ Advanced

Yuka Kameda began tap dancing at the age of 10 in her native city Osaka, Japan. In 2003, she saw the movie TAP and the musical Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk, which introduced her to her passion, Rhythm Tap. She joined the funk tap dance company Beis Crew in 2004 and performed throughout Japan. In 2005, Yuka moved to New York City, performing at venues such as the Lincoln Center, Joe's Pub, Symphony Space, Aaron Davis Hall, Knitting Factory among others. Yuka was a member of Mable Lee's Dancing Ladies and has performed in the New York Tap Extravaganza and the New York City Tap Festival. Yuka was also a member of Dormeshia Sumbry Edward's Sophisticated Ladies and has performed weekly at the world famous Cotton Club. Yuka's latest highlights include the New York Tap Extravaganza, the Blue Note and Birdland Jazz Club NYC as a solo tap dancer and the Colbert Report on Comedy Central and Jazz at Lincoln Center Spring Gala orchestrated by Wynton Marsalis, choreographed by Jared Grimes. Most recently, Yuka was a member of Tapestry, the world's only full-time professional repertory tap dance company based in Austin, TX. Yuka is now back in New York City and a faculty member at Mark Morris Dance Center. He has performed in over eight countries as a soloist and as a principal dancer and choreographer with the Bill Evans Dance Company and Especially Tap Chicago. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of Chicago Tap Theatre, which presents a 3 show season in Chicago every year as well as touring nationally and internationally.

Ryan Kenneth Johnson is a virtuosic performer, choreographer and artistic director of SOLE Defined. Ryan Johnson has performed in The Beatles LOVE and One Drop by Cirque Du Soleil and was a part of the NYC and touring cast of the hit show STOMP. For six years of his career, Johnson was the soloist and production manager for the world renown step dance company Step Afrika!, and the resident tap dancer for The Washington Ballet’s “The Great Gatsby.” He was the lead choreographer for the 2010 Season Premier of Extreme Makeover Home Edition in Baltimore, MD starring Raven-Symone. He has premiered new works at the International Body Music Festival in Brazil, New York City Tap Festival: Tap International, and Cirque Du Soleil with The Nevada Ballet’s “A Choreographers’ Showcase” in Las Vegas.

SECOND SATURDAYS: Sip & Shuffle- Let Your Feet Sing!

Have you always wanted to tap dance, but you think it’s too late to start?
No more excuses!
This is the workshop you’ve been waiting for!

LET YOUR FEET SING is a FREE Intro to Tap Workshop for adults who have never taken a tap dance class or have had less than 6 months of training. Learn the basics of weight shift, how to feel music and time, articulate the feet, and incorporate simple sounds and gestures. This is the perfect way to introduce yourself to the basic skills of tap dance before joining @HeidiTAPS Level I: Beginner Adult Tap Class.

Look forward to a fun afternoon of dance and meeting new friends while enjoying a little libation on the side!
